As I mentioned when we went to Philly, Local Music Store was doing publicity and distribution for local artists. This weekend, they held a multi artist, multi day festival of participating bands, and since it was free to us, we went both days. It was a bit odd, because the bands were set up in different classrooms.

As it was my second HFStival, I could make a plan to pace myself. I knew I’d want to see the big bands inside and the smaller ones on the side stage outside, and it also became important to be in the stadium when the thunderstorm came and caused a rain delay. Better Than Ezra and Soul Asylum were my favorites.
There is some video footage below, but here is a stream of the echo (replay) of highlights from the day.
I wasn’t there for Courtney Love’s famous stage dive but it’s here.

I know we had their major label debut as well as their first album on Epitaph before the show, so we were familiar with all the songs.

The flyer said “Three full sets! (Ask for your free sticker)”. You know I got one.

I started realizing I was never going to add to my ticket stub collection at Nick’s, so started saving receipts. I’m guessing it was just beer.

A legendary show for all the wrong reasons. I mentioned previously WHFS had been hosting lunchtime shows at Franklin Park in DC, and as they were getting more popular, moved to a theater near the Washington Monument. But thousands showed, and it was a disaster.

If you’re a Morphine fan, you really like the band, and the Black Cat was full of them. I had the albums, but my favorite song of the night was “Pulled Over The Car”, then only a Japanese extra track from Yes.

A big heavy metal band at Nick’s, so it was packed.

My first Blues Traveler show, and Heather came too. I remeber the hard bleacher seats at the Charles E. Smith Center, and really enjoying Blues Traveler. “Run-Around” was a huge hit and the crowd went nuts for it. I really liked their cover of War’s “Low Rider” as well.
