Meat Loaf at D.A.R. Constitution Hall, Washington, DC, USA

Review:

One my favorite concert stories. Meat Loaf had done VH1 Storytellers and released an album of it, and now was touring it. He and his band sat on stage with giant books that had every song he’d ever done, and if he was asked a question he liked, they’d play that song. The show was more than halfway through when one guy came to the microphone, a dead ringer for Meat Loaf as Eddie from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Meat Loaf saw him, told him to stop and come up to the stage. He talked to the band, who immediately started playing “Hot Patootie”. Meat Loaf and “Eddie” started singing it together, and it was just perfect. Unfortunately the live recording I have cuts out the banter.

Todd Watts (from emmet swimming) with Todd Wright (from The Excentrics) at Shark Club, Manassas, VA, USA

Review:

The two lead singers of my favorite local bands at one place on my birthday? Yes please. For whatever reason, the club had all that room upstairs, and the concert was in a small room in the basement.

Review:

The HFStival returned for the first time in the same year for a Fall edition. This seemed like a more aggressive and harder edged one, reminiscent of Woodstock ’99.

Bare Jr., Supersuckers, Larry Gatlin, Mandy Barnett, Susan Tedeschi, Deana Carter, Sawyer Brown, Steve Earle & the Dukes, Trisha Yearwood, Keb’ Mo’, Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews Band, John Mellencamp & Neil Young at Nissan Pavilion, Bristow, VA, USA for Farm Aid

Review:

The first time Farm Aid happened in the DC area, and a great lineup. A very long day though, and we skipped Willie Nelson. The recording is a whole thing rather than the usual artist by artist because of the short sets. It’s mostly from my recording of CMT that day, but someone had the whole Dave Matthews Band set. Also, three songs appeared on Farm Aid: Volume One: Live.

The Moody Blues at Nissan Pavilion, Bristow, VA, USA

Review:

An actual review from after the show: “My first Moodies show, and not my last. The band was in fine form and the Prince William Symphony Orchestra was excellent. Justin didn’t seem bored to me, especially during I’m Just A Singer. I enjoyed the new songs, Haunted in particular. I’ve waited a long time to see I Know You’re Out There Somewhere and Your Wildest Dreams, and I wasn’t disappointed. A great show. ”
