From my blog (originally from the edhead mailing list):
One great anecdote: When Mike was doing the banter on “Doin’ Time Under The Lifeguard Stand”, he was talking about being an adult and having the goggles on underwater, seeing the women of 1109 (still don’t know what that means), seeing Robbie (because he never forgets a wax job), then Robbie blew the whistle, usually the signal for Mike to start the chorus. Mike replied that now wasn’t a good time unless he wanted a sundial under the stand. This had everyone in hysterics, until Eddie topped it by saying “I didn’t know it was daylight savings time”, which made Robbie laugh so hard he was leaning his head against the wall.

Review:
From my blog (originally from the edheads mailing list):
After “Sunday Unplugged On The Cruise With The Edheads” during Sunday’s show, Robbie had Jim Raimo come up to demonstrate his dedication by showing his tattoo (the cover of Portable EFO show).

Eddie From Ohio on Carnival’s Fascination for Edhead Cruise
Review:
From my blog (originally from the edhead mailing list):
- before “The New James Bond”, Julie took a couple of minutes to remember the lyrics
- Eddie had a new kit
- at the end of “Great Day”, when Robbie, Julie and Mike were raising their hands, the waiter delivered beers, causing a huge grin to appear on Mike’s face
- during “The Three Fine Daughters Of Farmer Brown”, we had premature Joe; he started to come up in the wrong verse
- after Mike announced his Sign and Sail number was 4061, everyone started chanting the number, and he tried to “correct” himself, saying it was 1064 instead
- Mike showed off Robbie’s new cornrows

Howie Day with Matt Nathanson at The Birchmere, Alexandria, VA, USA

After seeing Howie Day open for Heather Nova in London, I was determined to see him again. And not only was he great, but Matt Nathanson was great and hilarious.

Paul McCartney at MCI Center, Washington, DC, USA
Review:
I started going to shows in earnest in 1994, and Paul McCartney had last toured in 1993, so I was beyond eager for my first show with a Beatle. And while he certainly played tracks from his then new album, the bulk of the show was Beatles and Wings hits, and no one there was unhappy about that, especially Jill and I.

Just their regular show, with their hilarious original songs, classic covers, and plenty of improv.

Tanya Donelly with Chris Lee at Black Cat, Washington, DC, USA
Review:
I remember visiting Jill at her apartment in DC before driving over to the Black Cat. I’m a big fan of Tanya Donelly’s band Belly, and while I’d dragged Chris to a signing they did, had never seen them. I was happy her solo set included several Belly songs.

This was the last ever show for The Excentrics, so of course T.T.’s was filled to overflowing.

Dave Matthews Band with Yerbabuena at MCI Center, Washington, DC, USA
Review:
Jill was already a fan of the Dave Matthews Band, so I got her floor seats (courtesy of the Warehouse fan club). With the songs from The Lillywhite Sessions finally coming out on Busted Stuff, we got a bunch of them, plus Butch Taylor on keys.

The Dubliners at Trafalgar Square, London, England
Review:
Another England blog entry from 2002:
… ended up at Trafalgar Square for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It was a crowded, rowdy event; the crowds only started to thin when it started to rain. The Dubliners headlined the event and were quite good, hard to hear since the volume wasn’t cranked like it is at festivals stateside.
