Gravity Kills, No Doubt, Dishwalla, Garbage, Everclear, Gin Blossoms, Cracker & Jimmie’s Chicken Shack at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, Washington, DC, USA for HFStival

Review:

Another year, another great HFStival lineup. No Doubt, Garbage and Gin Blossoms were my favorites. Art Alexakis (from Everclear) remembers the show fondly. Here’s a video recap and an audio recap by WHFS.

The Emptys, Dog’s Eye View, Seven Mary Three & Spin Doctors at Georgetown Harbor, Washington, DC, USA for the DC101 Chili Cook-Off

Review:

This might be Chris’s favorite show he ever went to with me, and it’s not because of the music. I was already a fan of hot sauces, but more along the lines of pouring Tabasco over my food. I bought a bottle of hot sauce from a vendor there, poured some over a chili dog, and took a couple bites. Pretty soon I knew what it is like to be pepper sprayed. I couldn’t open my eyes, and the beer lines were too long to get something to drink. I did enjoy the music, but eventually we left and I was soothed by a warm liter of soda that’d been left in the car.

Tori Amos with Willy Porter at D.A.R. Constitution Hall, Washington, DC, USA

Review:

My first time seeing Tori. I’d wanted to see her in 1994, but by the time a 3rd show went on sale (after selling out the first two nights), I had tix to a different show. With only three albums out, she played most of my favorites.

Joan Osborne with Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies at 9:30 Club, Washington, DC, USA

Review:

Joan Osborne came out of nowhere with “One Of Us”, but in addition to Relish, she also released Early Recordings with great covers of “Son Of A Preacher Man” and “Wild World”. Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies was a fun jam band.

Foo Fighters with that dog. & The Amps at UMBC Fieldhouse, Baltimore, MD, USA

Review:

I’d missed the Foo Fighters (and Eddie Vedder) opening up for Mike Watt at the Black Cat, but I wasn’t going to miss their headling tour.
According to foofighterslive.com: “Someone in the crowd threw an empty water bottle at Dave during ‘How I Miss You’, prompting the rest of the crowd to join in. The song was cut short and Dave introduced the next song as ‘Alone + Easy Target On Stage’. ”
