It was probably because of our connection to the Local Music Store that we were invited to the Philadelphia Music Conference. I know we stayed at a hotel, and I wrote down which bands we saw and where, but the only memory I have is waiting for the subway and getting some bad vibes.

Another Excentrics Kiss tribute, this time for Halloween.

I fell hard for Dream Theater’s second album Images and Words, and this show was full of that and their then new third album.

My first full band emmet show at T.T.’s, plus my first time seeing Biohio, significant as their lead singer Scott Brotemarkle would go on to sing in Smartbomb, then in Quitter UK with Todd before joining emmet.
The flyer for the show notes “Help emmet make a good impression… An A&R Represenative from Epic Records will be flying in from L.A. to check us out. We need your support for this show!!”

I was back at the USAir Arena the next night for one of the most disappointing shows of the year. I loved me some Clapton hits, and couldn’t wait to hear them. I knew we was touring with a new blues album, but that shouldn’t make a difference, right? No, the whole show was blues covers, with only one taste of familiarity with “Crossroads”. I learned a hard lesson about doing my research that night.

That’s right, 3 days after my first Phish show, I saw Grateful Dead (or any version with Jerry Garcia) for the first and last time. It was a bit awkward because I brought a date and it was soon apparent to me she was more into me than I was into her. Still, “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”!
My first Phish show. Chris was horrified, but I was amazed by them jamming and then finishing up with covers of Prince and Boston. Plus I’m a sucker for “Down With Disease”.
Fun fact: the attendance record of 10,356 for this show stood for 30 years.

I don’t remember if I picked up their CD before or after seeing them at the HFStival, but know I loved their power-pop, and went down to this festival just to see them.
